Project Focus

Sanctuary

This Grace of Giving has purchased land and begun building a facility to house people who have been persecuted for converting to Christianity or are in danger of becoming a child bride. Our most urgent task now is building a flock to support this sanctuary financially.

Last year the father of one of our village families was put in prison for 5 months and beaten daily - for no other reason than he converted to Christianity. His family was able to scrape together enough money to get him released. Even after his release, he was still being harassed. At Christmas, we were able to quickly pack him and his family up and move them to safety.

This family is currently living close to the Sanctuary House and is able to keep watch on progress being made as well as keeping building supplies from disappearing - a task we cannot physically do being several hours away.

For this family, much was left behind including their livelihood of raising livestock. This Grace Of Giving is seeking to restart the goat and sheep herd the family had to leave behind when they escaped persecution. Beth has known this family for many years and has found them to be hardworking, honest, and straightforward.

You can support this family - and bring encouragement to many local Christians facing persecution - by sponsoring animals or covering the cost of a window, door, or blocks for the completion of the building. Learn more about how you can help.

Child Bride Safe House

Even though the Government of Ghana does not condone child brides, the bush communities still practice the tradition. Poverty is a major driver of this vicious cycle. When families do not have enough resources to feed, clothe and educate their children, daughters are offered as child brides when the opportunity presents itself.

Girls as young as 8 or 9 become child brides. Sadly once they are married - often to a much older man - they become his property. When he becomes tired of them, the girls are discarded. They can't go back to their families who can't support them, and because they lack education or any type of job training they have no way to support themselves.

We have started to build a safe house to shelter girls who are caught in this situation. Apart from giving them a place to stay and food to eat, we also send them to schools and trade schools. The long-term goal is that they will be able to make a living for themselves and have a purpose in life. The land has already been purchased, the foundation laid and the walls have started to go up.
